Drumming for Change

Drumming has become an integral part of Paul and Jan's personal wellness practice. We drum for stress reduction; we drum for  exercise.  We drum walking the labyrinth in our backyard at prayer. We drum for fun at parties with our friends!

For ideas on how to make drumming part of your self-care, check out this  article by one of our teachers, music therapist Christine Stevens:

A Word from the Webmaster

Skills to Practice

I keep a folder on my computer called “Ideas.” In it I store quotes from various people and random thoughts that might provide seeds for future columns here. Sometimes, I save reminders for myself to make certain I stay on the right course in my own spiritual journey.

This little snippet is likely one of the latter--a personal note from Jan to Jan. I recorded no author, so I will apologize in advance if I lifted this from someone else’s work. Readers, please alert me if I did, so that I might add proper credit!

Here’s what I stored:

Skills to Practice

Stop talking

Practice deep breathing

Use relaxation key

Write what happened

Exercise

Could any of them be useful in your own walk?

Each skill is worth further exploration. I'll post an article on the first one later today--you'll know it's done when I indent and it turns into a link.

I'll offer them to Dr. Warren for his thoughts too. I know Write about what I teach is a "to do" he always has on his own list, though it's difficult for him to find the time.

And you can get in the act too! Are any of  these five skills a practice that you want or need to incorporate in your own journey? Do you have other skills that have been helpful to you? Send me your comments and I'll include them in a future post.

We look forward to hearing from you! Write to us at sjanhughes or pwarren653, both at aol.com.
