A Very Little Bit of History

Dr. Paul Warren launched Courage2Change in September 1999. However, his active psychological practice (and equally active home life) made working on the website difficult, if not impossible.  He began talking with me, his wife, about joining him.

I was the Clinical Program Manager of the Children and Adolescent Division of MHMR of Tarrant County at that time. Increasingly frustrated over the lack of funding here in Texas for community mental health services, I was tempted for the first time to enter private practice. But as a social worker, I did not want to abandon serving those with limited resources.

Paul convinced me that the Courage2Change website could be a path to service, if given adequate attention. Finally, in May 2000, I came on board, as a colleague in providing clinical services and as webmaster for this site.

Paul and I are still discussing how best to serve. We see many clients who may have insurance, but with a limited number of sessions or a high deductible or co-pay. Many people are oppressed by debt or by the financial devastation of divorce. Many have no mental health benefits or no insurance at all. We have to charge for our professional services, but we work hard to help people make the changes they seek in the most efficient manner possible for them.

We do this by using techniques which the research has shown to be effective. We believe in each individual's God-given capacity to heal, and we provide information, not only in session, but also about  books and other resources to speed that process.

And after the desired change is in place, we want www.courage2change.net to be a continuing resource for our clients--as well as a resource for their friends, family members, and others in the community who will never set foot in our office.
