The Drumming Page

Why drum? Because it's an instrument everyone can play! Drumming is the perfect start for beginners who want to enjoy the health benefits of recreational music making. People of all cultures have drummed since the beginning--it's our birthright as humans.

Don't worry that you won't be able to do it right! (Paul reminds us at every circle, "There are no mistakes here!") And science shows that when we drum with others, it takes more energy NOT to drum on the beat than it does to do it. We will naturally fall into the pattern. It's a phenomenon called entrainment, discovered by physicists in the sixteenth century.

Like the flocks of birds that fly above us beating their wings in harmony, we find our rhythm too. Come find out for yourself.

The 2nd Friday Drum Circle has relocated!

This family-friendly drum circle meets at the Westside Unitarian Church, 901 Page Avenue, Fort Worth on the 2nd Friday of every month, 7:00 to 8:30 pm. It's a recreational music-making experience that is free of charge and open to everyone!

How to get there:

The Westside Unitarian Church is located in the historic Ryan Place neighborhood, just south of the Fairmount Southside Historic District, at 901 Page Avenue (the east end of Elizabeth Boulevard.) This is less than 3 miles south of downtown Fort Worth.

For directions, see http://www.westside uu.org/about/location.html

Confused by all the different types of drums circles? Read this article in Wikipedia: Drum Circle. The drum circle mentioned above has occasional facilitation and the grooves tend to be briefer than in an all-out "thunder-drumming" (as famed facilitator Arthur Hull calls it) circle.  Children are welcome. Don't be afraid to check it out!

Paul Warren and Jan Hughes are trained HealthRhythms facilitators. If you'd like us to facilitate a wellness drumming experience for your group or workplace, do give us a call. We did not place our names on the Remo website as facilitators, because we have very little time between our work at the office and with our church, to facilitate many circles each year. But if you have found us through Courage2Change, please do contact us and we'll see if we can accommodate you.
